Awaken to the Dance

Through history, many people have been touched by the energy, the vibration, the spirit of Sacajawea. When she was twelve years old, at her womanhood ceremony, she had no idea what was about to happen in her life.

Sacajawea was kidnapped and separated from those she loved, traded or won by a French trapper who was many times her age, and a mother by the time she was 16 years old. And, what happened next was a defining purpose for her life, and her afterlife. The only way we know this is true, is because of the spiritual connections and energy she has shown to people for generations.

In 1803, she was a slave with the Hidatsa people, and at the same time the Lewis & Clark Expedition began. In 1903. she was the icon at the forefront of the Women’s Movement, the Suffragettes. In 2003, her story was being written into a screenplay after many years of guidance and purpose to that call. Why do we remember a young Shoshone girl more than 200 years later?

So many people along this journey have expressed to me their deep love and spiritual connection to Sacajawea. Not just in the United States but around the world. With such a vibrant energy, I knew there was a greater purpose than just telling her story from the 1800s. I knew she wanted to share something magnificent – her light, her love, her beautiful spirit with the entire world.

This poem from the inspirational award-winning book Awakening is written as a reflection of the love Sacajawea has for us all, and the message she has come a long way to impart on our lives. Let us awaken to the dance together.

Awaken to the Dance

Let the wind dance in me,
Feel my lips upon its breath,
Know it holds within its grasp,
A loving like no other.

I am dancing this eternal song,
With others on these wings.
We’ve lived the years not knowing,
Awakened now – we sing.

Molded with Creation’s hands,
Through Spirit’s Light we see.
We’re called to ride this Holy wind,
In Truth, we’re One and free.

Dance with us, each step, in sync,
Our walk is now, and here.
We vibrate with the Universe,
And there is no fear.

This wind blows love around the earth,
In waves and infinite flow.
Simply dance within the Spirit’s love,
And watch its “wildfire” grow.
